Those who take x-rays must still obtain a radiography qualification, which requires being at least 18 years old and passing a board-approved dental radiography exam or course. To become a Registered Dental Assistant (optional after July 1, 2025), individuals must complete board-approved courses and pass exams in Iowa jurisprudence and infection control, and hold current CPR certification. The application fee for registration is $40, or $60 if combined with a radiography qualification.
